Our client is a well-established manufacturing group operating across multiple UK locations. With a centralised payroll hub supporting several industrial sites, the company manages all payroll operations in-house and provides regional payroll support to teams across Europe. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking payroll function known for accuracy, compliance, and strong service delivery.
Payroll Assistant Manager
Take ownership of end-to-end UK payroll processes and act as deputy to the Payroll Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operations and providing guidance to junior team members in a high-volume, multi-site environment.
Key Skills & Duties:

Accurately process monthly payroll for approximately 500 employees across various UK sites

Manually calculate PAYE, National Insurance and other statutory deductions when necessary

Manage workplace pension schemes and ensure compliance with Auto-Enrolment legislation

Process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP, and ensure timely year-end returns

Reconcile payroll-related accounts and complete monthly journals for finance reporting

Supervise payroll administrators and support team development and performance

Step in for the Payroll Manager when required, ensuring continuity of service

Drive process improvements and contribute to system upgrades or project implementations

Maintain compliance with UK tax and employment legislation as well as internal audit requirements

Confidently use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with large-scale payroll systems essential
