Job Title – Head of R&D&C
 
Their Purpose – Their mission is help drive environmental impact through cutting-edge cleantech advancements, including pyrolysis-based biochar production that sequesters carbon and supports circular economy goals.
 
Location &, flexibility – Edinburgh

About the Job:
  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive R&D&C strategy aligned with the companies mission and commercial objectives.
  • Shape innovation priorities, identify technology and product development opportunities, and future-proof the company’s scientific roadmap.
  • Lead the delivery of current grant-funded and consultancy-based research projects.
  • Manage project reporting, stakeholder communications, and compliance with funders and partners.
  • Identify and secure new grant and consultancy income in collaboration with the CEO and COO.
  • Build partnerships with academic, industry, and funding bodies to expand their influence and R&D income base.
  • Oversee laboratory testing and development of CreChar®, FilaChar®, and related biochar products.

About you:
  • Proven leadership in R&D, ideally within cleantech, waste valorisation, or bio-based materials.
  • Strong experience managing research teams and delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Track record of successful grant acquisition and/or scientific consultancy.
  • Deep technical understanding of biochar, anaerobic digestion, or environmental biotechnology.
  • Excellent project management and scientific communication skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem solving in a dynamic start-up environment.
