About the Job:
As Senior Network Design Manager, you’ll take ownership of the technical specification and design governance of complex electrical infrastructure across EV charging hubs, Electric Forecourts and associated renewable energy systems. You’ll lead internal and external design teams, act as the technical authority across the portfolio, and ensure designs are delivered safely, compliantly, on time and within budget.
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role, sitting at the heart of engineering, development and construction - bridging strategy, delivery and innovation.
- Define and own electrical design standards and specifications for EV charging, grid connections, HV/LV systems, BESS and hybrid energy solutions
- Lead, manage and review designs produced by external consultants, ICPs and delivery partners
- Act as technical authority for HV (11kV–33kV), LV AC and DC network designs
- Review and approve electrical schematics, cable schedules, calculations, protection settings and AutoCAD drawings
- Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations, H&S standards, DNO/IDNO requirements and internal technical standards
- Provide technical leadership across fast-moving EV charging and energy storage technologies
- Coordinate closely with Development, Construction, Grid, Commercial and Legal teams to support planning, tenders and grid applications
- Represent engineering in technical, project and stakeholder meetings, including liaison with DNOs, architects, structural engineers and MEP consultants
- Support monitoring system requirements through installation and commissioning phases
- Drive continuous improvement through research, innovation and adoption of new technologies
- Manage budgets and ensure cost-effective, buildable and future-ready designs across the portfolio
About you:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Significant experience in electrical network design across EV charging, renewables, BESS or grid infrastructure
- Strong technical background in HV (11kV & 33kV), LV and DC systems
- Proven experience leading design teams and managing external consultants
- Advanced understanding of grid studies, protection coordination, earthing and HV distribution design
- Hands-on experience with electrical calculations, cable sizing and system analysis
- Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, H&S standards and UK electrical regulations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design tools (e.g. Amtech or similar)
- Ability to balance technical excellence with commercial awareness and delivery deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, with confidence presenting technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders
