Job Title – Nuclear Systems & Safety Engineer (6-month Contract)

Their Purpose – An innovative engineering organisation developing advanced technologies within the fusion energy sector, helping to deliver next-generation clean energy solutions through cutting-edge research, design and technology development.

Location & flexibility – Fully remote (local to Oxfordshire preferred)

Salary & Benefits – Competitive – will be inside IR35

About the Job –
• Develop preliminary and detailed safety assessments for experimental systems, irradiation facilities and associated engineering equipment.
• Perform and document nuclear safety assessments covering confinement systems, gas handling systems and experimental facility interfaces.
• Define and assess accident scenarios, safety system performance and source term evaluations for safety-significant systems.
• Support requirements management, verification, validation and engineering assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to safety documentation, design reviews and compliance with applicable regulatory and engineering standards.

About you –
• Master's degree or PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
• Experience developing safety cases and undertaking safety assessments within nuclear, fusion or other highly regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of accident scenario analysis, source term assessment and risk mitigation methodologies.
• Experience with safety assessment techniques including FMEA/FMECA, HAZOP/HAZID and engineering risk assessments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments.
