Job Title – Mechanical Engineer (6-month Contract)

Their Purpose – An innovative engineering organisation developing advanced technologies within the fusion energy sector, helping to deliver next-generation clean energy solutions through cutting-edge research, design and technology development.

Location & flexibility – Fully remote (local to Oxfordshire preferred)

Salary & Benefits – Competitive – will be inside IR35

About the Job –
• Develop conceptual, preliminary and detailed mechanical designs for experimental systems, gas handling equipment and supporting infrastructure.
• Produce and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Perform thermo-mechanical, thermo-hydraulic, structural and fluid-flow analyses to support design verification activities.
• Prepare engineering substantiation reports, design calculations and technical documentation to support reviews and project decisions.
• Contribute to commissioning, testing, validation activities and supplier engagement across complex engineering projects.

About you –
• Experience designing and analysing mechanical systems within nuclear, fusion, energy or other highly regulated industries.
• Strong CAD modelling capability with experience producing engineering drawings and design documentation.
• Experience using engineering analysis and simulation tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL Multiphysics or equivalent software.
• Experience supporting the design and substantiation of mechanical systems in accordance with recognised engineering codes and standards such as ASME Section III, ASME Section VIII, RCC-MRx, PED or equivalent.
• Knowledge of pressure systems, gas handling systems and engineering verification, validation and substantiation processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
