Job Title – Inorganic Synthesis Chemist / Colloidal Chemist

Their Purpose – An advanced materials organisation developing innovative inorganic materials and nanomaterial technologies. The team is focused on designing, synthesising and scaling high performance materials through cutting-edge chemistry.

Location & flexibility – Central Oxford – onsite

Salary & Benefits – £40k - £50k depending on experience, 25 days + BH, Pension, Private Medical Insurance

About the Job –
• Design and execute synthetic routes for inorganic materials, nanomaterials, nanoparticles and colloidal systems.
• Carry out colloidal synthesis, controlling nucleation, growth, particle size, morphology and composition.
• Develop and optimise synthetic routes using techniques including Schlenk line chemistry, sol-gel synthesis, precipitation, hydrothermal and solvothermal methods.
• Interpret characterisation data to guide synthetic development and improve material performance, yield and reproducibility.
• Scale successful laboratory syntheses to larger batch production while maintaining rigorous experimental records and protocols.


About You –
• PhD or MSc in inorganic chemistry, colloidal chemistry, nanochemistry, synthetic materials chemistry or a closely related discipline, or equivalent industrial experience.
• Strong hands-on synthetic chemistry expertise with extensive bench-based laboratory experience.
• Proven experience in colloidal inorganic synthesis and air/moisture-sensitive chemistry using Schlenk line techniques.
• Excellent understanding of precursor chemistry, reaction mechanisms, nucleation and crystal growth.
• Methodical, curious and capable of troubleshooting complex synthetic challenges while maintaining high levels of reproducibility.
